Amateur radio or sometimes called HAM radio is one of those hobbies that for many can literally 'take over' users lives as amateur radio users just love the way it all works. And over recent times thee have been huge developments in amateur communications - its never been so exciting, ask any radio 'ham'.

And because it all moves along at an extraordinary pace with technology, of course being in the radio business it excites us too. Even some members of staff are in fact licenced radio amateurs themselves.

 

Of course, it all used to be HF, VHF, UHF modes and little else (maybe not!). But then came along digital aspects of communications and over the years today the radio amateur equipment has changed out of all proportions to what it used to be. Back in the day the 'Kantronics' equipment seemed to spark movement in equipment design, with D-STAR, SDR and other digital technologies coming in that have changed the face of amateur equipment forever. And that still is going on even today.

With newer innovation like LoRa technology moving things along and lets remember those Raspberry PI devices with some very clever software written often by radio amateurs all have an effect on the hobby.

But that innovation (often quite low cost too) will find its way on to radio equipment moving forward as it generally does. And radio guys are very intuitive and certainly not without skills to develop some really great gear.

Of course all the regular transceiver brands are out there still in general. Companies like Yaesu, Kenwood, iCOM and others that have appeared on the scene since the start of the SDR technology arriving in droves. Even 'APACHE' labs have been involved in developing that technology much further than many might have expected it to be.

With innovation, most amateur radio users will know that nothing stands still, and when you include a country like China, then you see massive changes in what is available at very low cost. Of course the HAM radio guys really in to regular 'old fashioned' radio are still out there and they love what they do. But considering current trends its easy to almost see the future especially with those OFCOM license changes in the UK. No longer will high powered rigs be something you hear about for the USA or similar areas of the world, it's coming to the UK and in reality radio amateur licences are being effectively easier to get on the ladder to full licenses in the UK. And those moves by OFCOM are likely to increase radio amateur numbers moving forward rather than watching the sector slowly fade away.

So with the whole backdrop of how radio equipment is sold, the changes going on, the incredible innovation, we think that we should be able to help genuine amateurs, or others that want to experiment with different modes of communication by helping them to buy equipment at great pricing. We can't guarantee the 'cheapest' price always, but when we can we will ty hard to offer great service for quality equipment at great prices.
