There is no doubt that Kenwood communications are built on quality hardware, and some of he equipment uses new technology in the creation of the devices. Kenwood is a major supplier of two way radios and specializations in certain technologies help Kenwood to stay in the communications sector.

Kenwood's NEXEDGE NXDN can provide business critical and trunked radio solutions that are both innovative and have the backing of this large company. Kenwood also have a multi protocol technology that Kenwood say can 'future proof' their equipment? So is it all good?

There's no escaping the above facts about Kenwood and their technologies like the 'multi protocol' operation. Basically multi protocol allows a 2 way radio to operate in more than one mode, and that could be highly important to some customers. For example, if you had FM and a Tier II DMR and NXDN that's a multi-protocol choice. For most smaller companies multi protocol radios might really be an overkill and maybe unnecessary, but as soon as there is consideration by corporate and mission critical users then the technology is useful.

Multi protocol is sometimes used in retailing and hospitality (although we have not seen it in hospitality in the UK), public services and other uses for large establishments. Learning more about this by examining the NX-3000 series that is a good solution for those types of business application.

So, where things might get questionable relates not to the quality or the technology used, but more towards the cost factor involved, especially if your business is not really even understanding NEXEDGE NXDN networked technology. In those cases (and there are many) the technology would be wasted in businesses that just don't need that level of communication.

It's fair to say that the regular Kenwood handsets like the NX-1000 series can offer great communications ability with even lone worker and safety features that today are so important to be in any communications system. And even the NX-1000 CAN operate in multi protocol mode.

But herein lies the issue really, customers could be investing in features that they might never use, or maybe cannot recoup the overall system value compared to some other brand. The features even on the NX-1000 are very good but it is worth remembering that features all carry a cost.

Other important aspects include the level of accessories available for ANY brand of communications equipment - even walkie talkies if that's what the customer uses, so its great to know that Kenwood has a fantastic range of accessories from earpiece and microphones through specialist headsets and more.
